Step by Step Guideline to Install Rainbow Portal in a Shared Hosting Server

1. Grant Folder/File Permission

Submit a technical support ticket to your hosting provider and ask them to grant proper permission. "NETWORK SERVICE" account needs "Modify" permission in your Rainbbow Portal install folder. You need to grant the permission to domain root path "wwwroot" folder if you use Helm control panel.

2. Create MSSQL Database

Go to your hosting control panel (Helm) and create MSSQL database. Please ask your hosting provider to give you Server IP, Database Name, Database Username and Database Password information if you cannot create MSSQL database by yourself.

3. Download Rainbow Portal

Download latest Rainbow Portal from http://sourceforge.net/projects/rainbowportal/ and save it to your local disk.

4. Unzip the downloaded file

Unzip the downloaded file.

5. Change Connection String in Web.config file

Open Web.config file using Notepad or any other editor and make the following changes.

6. Upload the Rainbow Portal Files to the Web Server

Use your favorate FTP client program to upload all your unzipped files to the web server. FileZilla is a very good one.

7. Install Rainbow Portal

Open your Internet Browser and point to your URL which you want to install Rainbow Portal. In our case, it is http://www.hurricane-rita.us/. Click "Next >" button at the bottom of the page. The system will start to install Rainbow Portal for you. Please be patient, it will take several seconds to several minutes.

8. Install Finished

Click "Finish" button and it will redirect to the home page. Now your new Rainbow Portal site is ready to go.

9. Customize Rainbow application settings (Optional)

Change "SmtpServer" and "EmailFrom" in Web.config file.

		
		
	

Change "SupportFromEmailAddress" and "SupportToEmailAddress" in Rainbow.config file.
